Vehicle Forfiture:When a driver is charged with a repeat driving offense or a drug offense where a vehicle was involved, the State of Minnesota may issue a Notice of Seizure and Intent to Forfeit the vehicle. If the owner of the vehicle is an "innocent owner" who had no knowledge of the alleged offense, they may be entitled to get the vehicle back. When a driver receives one of these notices, he or she should immediately contact an experienced attorney to see if they may have a viable defense to the forfeiture, and to make sure that the required Petition for Hearing is filed with the court on time.
